Christian Leadership Qualities | Spiritual Purpose in Christ

Every Christian should strive to exercise in Christian leadership qualities so we are always prepared to let the light of the Gospel message shine in us and through us as we be inviting to others by the power of the Holy Spirit to draw them closer to Christ.

It is the great commission of Christians to have or develop spiritual purpose that is always ready to give the great reasons why following Jesus and obeying the Word of God brings spiritual freedom through the love, peace, hope and joy of the Lord.

Paul the Apostle wrote to Timothy about being a leader in sound doctrine, dealing with conflict and remaining where Timothy was to teach and edify with a pure heart, a good conscience and strong faith…

Christian Leadership QualitiesCall to Leadership from Paul the Apostle

1 Timothy 1:3-5

3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

This passage from Timothy 1, written by Paul the Apostle to Timothy, is a call to leadership.

We are all leaders in some way in our lives whether it be at work, at home, in our churches or with friends.

There are 3 spiritual purposes in leadership that Paul beseeches Timothy with…

1. Remain – To abide or remain means we don’t give up on our delivery of the Gospel message to others in kind and thoughtful ways.

2. Dealing with Conflicts – Showing charity or love to others helps in dealing with conflicts.

3. Sound Doctrine – Being knowledgeable of the truth of Scripture makes for leadership to give quality Biblical advice.

1. Remain

The purpose to Remain – we can relate to this in our lives as not giving up on our marriages or jobs and being faithful to our Churches and to give each role our best.

Do not succumb to your limitations but think on what God can do with you as His instrument.

Be cheerful in your work and know and share the Lord’s joy and be always ready to give testament to the great things Jesus has done for you and in you.

Always be ready to suggest that the Lord is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6) and that the people you meet and greet can be saved with the love, peace, hope and joy of the Gospel message.

Christian Dealing with Conflict2. Deal with Conflicts

The purpose to Deal with Conflicts – having a pure heart, being of a good conscience and having faith unfeigned will help us to deal with others with love.

Not being caught up in legalism, but showing others the love of Christ can avoid unnecessary conflicts and will guide us to deal righteously with real conflicts…

Matthew 23:25-26

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

3. Sound Doctrine

The purpose to Be Knowledgeable in Sound Doctrine – If we want to share the love of Christ with others we must educate ourselves in the Gospel message.

This happens through the study of the word of God with direction from church Pastors in the truth of the Gospel.

We can always trust the Word of God to point us in the right direction, the direction towards Jesus Christ.

The devil tries every way he can to twist the Bible making it compromised by fables and ideas that are not really of the Bible.

The most glaring example of this in our day and digital age is new age spirituality that preaches any religion will get you to heaven and believing in the saving grace of Jesus is optional.

This is not the Gospel message, is not sound doctrine and should be rejected for the truth of the Gospel that says Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6) and ONLY by accepting Him as your Lord and Savior and repenting of your sins are you saved to a blessed eternity near God.

There are various versions of the idea that you don’t need Jesus for spiritual freedom so be very weary.

  • Hello Alexander, I enjoyed your article on Christian Leadership Qualities / Spiritual Purpose in Christ.  I also love the name of your website: Jesus Christ My Hero.  Jesus Christ is my Hero.  We need to spread the word about sound doctrine.  John 14:6 The Lord is the way, the truth and the life.  I also love the video br Dr. Ravi Zacharias.  Keep marching onward my fellow christian soldier.

    • Thank you, Clement, for your encouraging comments.

Sound doctrine is so very important, but I wonder some days if I am successful at encouraging people to study the Bible and attend a descent Bible teaching Church.

It is hard to measure who takes me up on listening to the FREE Thru The Bible and other resources I recommend, but I keep going and hope that the Lord inspires many to seek His Word.

There is so much clarity in John 14:6 and Jesus words are all perfect.

      God Bless You

  • Thank you for sharing this insightful message. We are all called upon to be leaders…leaders that serve others.  I like how Paul wrote about “remaining”…and it speaks to me about commitment and perseverance as you noted.  Commitment, for example, in relationships that always are rosy and perseverance in life when the world tells you to give up on someone or yourself.  To be able to “remain” requires strength to be the odd man out…and often times to go it alone when others have quit.

    • Hi Tim, I’m glad the article hit home for you especially on the issue of staying committed or remaining.

When others quit and you feel like you have little strength, remember when we are weak, Christ is strong and will lead us always in the best path and strengthen our commitment.

All things are possible for us when we rely on the strength of the Lord.

      Christ be with you.

  • Hello Alexander, i was very pleased to read throughout your post the word FREE! There are many in leadership out there who want to exploit the word of God and make money from that which is freely given to us. Thankyou for your simple well written and genuine post. I also like the piece on the putting on the armour of God and this is an area that is so relevant to being effective.

    • Yes, Cass, I feel very blessed and thankful to be able to share with my readers the very helpful FREE resources available to strengthen our understanding of the freely given Holy Word of God.

I am on a mission to encourage study of the Word of God through the Free online resources I recommend, but also by being a part of a descent Bible teaching Church.

Thank you for your comment and I look forward to hearing more from you.

      God Bless You
